JEE Mains and JEE Advanced ,Their names can sound similar, but there is a great deal of difference in these two top exams. Yes, it’s very important for students to be completely aware of the difference between the JEE Mains exam, that is conducted by the CBSE, and the JEE Advanced, that is conducted by the IITs.

Let’s analyze the major two differences amongst these two:-

The Indian Institutes of Technology – Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE) entrance exam is conducted by 23 IITs. Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) is an All India Common Entrance Exam for admission to top engineering colleges across India. It is conducted in two phases – JEE Mains and JEE Advanced.

It is very important for every student to know the difference between both the exams (IIT JEE Mains and IIT JEE Advanced).

Actually the main differences between both the examinations are differences in their accepting institutes.

IIT JEE Mains

  • JEE Mains is suitable for those candidates who want to get into BE or B.Tech courses in the National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), other Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs) and engineering colleges of the participating states .
  • The JEE Mains is also the eligibility test that allows students to give the JEE Advanced exam which eventually leads to admission in either the IITs or the Indian School of Mines (ISM).
  • The JEE Mains is comprised of two papers, namely, Paper 1 and Paper 2. The Paper 1 is for students who want admission in BE and B.Tech courses and Paper 2 is for those who want admission in B.Arch and B.Planning courses. While Paper 1 is held through the online and offline mode, where as Paper 2 is held only offline.
  • While applying for the JEE Mains exam, the candidates must specify if they want to appear for the Paper 1 or Paper 2 or for both.
  • JEE Mains can be given through both online and offline mode.
  • The syllabus is same like CBSE Class 11th and 12th Physics, Chemistry and Maths.
  • Students can attempt thrice for this exam.

IIT JEE Advanced

JEE Advanced a popular examination conducted by the seven zonal Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) for admission into various Bachelor’s Degree and other Professional Degree Courses.

  • It is held for admission in Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) and Indian School of Mines (ISM) situated at Dhanbad. Institutes like the Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER), Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology, and the Indian Institute of Science which use the score obtained in JEE Advanced as the basis for admission.
  • JEE- Advanced is strictly paper-based. The candidates must sit for both Paper 1 and Paper 2 in this exam to get admission into engineering college.
  • This exam can be given through online mode only.
  • The syllabus here is same as Mains with few extra topics.
  •  Students can attempt JEE-Advanced for a maximum of two times in consecutive years.
